About University of California Botanical Garden

Reservations are recommended to the public. UCBG Members and Cal staff/students do not need to make reservations. Closed on Tuesdays.

The 34-acre UC Botanical Garden is one of the most diverse landscapes in the world, with over 10,000 types of plants including many rare and endangered species. Organized geographically, the Garden features nine regions of naturalistic plantings with a major collection of California native plants, as well as ethnobotanical and taxonomic collections. Our mission is to develop and maintain a diverse living collection of plants, to support teaching and research in plant biology, further the conservation of plant diversity, and promote public understanding and appreciation of plants.

My absolute favorite botanical garden. Their collection is great and i love gow lush everything is. The plant shop always has some interesting finds. And i recently bought a varity of corpse flower from there!

Beautiful garden, well organized by world regions. Year-round interest, especially for those interested in botany and looking to compare plant families across the world. Some plant name signs missing, but otherwise one of the best botanic gardens in CA!

Beautiful gem hidden away in the hills. A nice scale to tackle in a couple hours. Stunning views of the bay and bridge. The scent of flowers plays lightly in the breeze. Little benches hidden all over for rests. We'll be back!

This place is amazing. So much to see. We went on a monday and it was quiet and peaceful. South America was in bloom so we got to see the Puyas which was a plus. Just a great place to get lost for a few hours. We also bought some plants for home from the shop. Highly recommend if you want to escape the noise of the bay area.

This is so far my favorite botanical garden in CA & I’ve been to SFs , Santa Barbara and Mendocino coast. I just loved the variety of plants and I really love the tropical indoor greenhouse. I also loved all the benches and all of the Signs. Don’t forget to go across the street I was in awe over the trees and the amphitheater was so cool. The gift shop is small and I was a little sad about that but it’s OK because at least they have a small one and vs none. So much to see it took us a hour and half-ish . Also sf Is probably the runner-up.
